Sailor Mas is a much-loved integral part of the Vintage Carnival landscape. The costumes delight the eye
as much as the rock and sway of the dance delight body and soul.
Further the interaction of elder(s) and youngster(s)is an important part of maintaining our customs from
one generation to the next and is to be encouraged wherever it takes place such as the Old Yard
(Creative Arts Centre, UWI, St. Augustine)
"The Sailors shall teach them" can be displayed on its own or form part of a conceptual diptych; one of a
pair capturing senior sailors engaging and imparting their knowledge, not via mere words but by energetic
movement and the love of their craft.
