About the Piece
A little girl happily models her Burrokeet costume with a sweet smile. The burrokeet mas dates back to
the late 18th century when Trinidad was a Spanish colony. Interestingly, the word burrokeet comes from
the Spanish word burroquito, which means 'small donkey', and this particular costume is still popular with
younger masqueraders today.
