About the Piece

The painting depicts “The Greasy Pole” a feature at Easter and Christmas Harvest. It shows the
determination of man to get to the top. On its face, you would see young men and women facing the
obstacles of grease and dirt and the pulling and tugging of other competitors striving to get to the top, getting dirty, climbing one on top of the other.

However, on a closer look, you would see signs of support where the contenders form a circle for others to step up and reach closer to the prize.

It is my view that like the painting, men should support each other along the obstacles to help each other achieve their life purpose. There is little that man cannot accomplish without support along the way. One man cannot do it alone.
