Reita Antoine – visual artist, entrepreneur, arts management and education consultant, mentor and academic. Born in Princes Town (South Trinidad) in 1966, the artist has worked for over 23 years in her field. Her early education began at Naparima Girls’ High School, where she pursued French, Spanish and Art. She also attended Valsayn Teachers’ College where she acquired her Teacher’s Diploma in 1993 and as a graduate of the University of the West Indies, St Augustine, she holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts with Human Resource Management as well as a Master’s Degree in Education, Concentration in Curriculum.
She is most passionate about teaching Art and does so throughout the Education System, but by her recently established Wearable Art business she is also able to engage patrons at even higher levels. As the Creative Director of Aarean Designs, her artwork is based on fine silk batik and other hand-crafted and printed designs. Her pieces are marketed throughout Trinidad and Tobago and are characteristic of the love, warmth, colour and music that she herself enjoys in our beautiful Caribbean space. Through her painting, her desire is to share aspects of our natural, local environment and those attributes of our cultural heritage that invariably describes our unique Trinbagonian identity.
Currently a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Art Society as well as President of Canvas Caribbean, she exhibits her work continually. In 2011, she participated in the exhibition of works by Women Artists of Trinidad and Tobago in celebration of 100 years of International Women’s Day at the National Museum and Art Gallery. She is also a contributing writer of an article to “Youth Undaunted”, a commemorative book published as part of Naparima Girls’ High School Centenary Celebrations, 2011.
