Kavita Ramlakhan grew up in Central Trinidad, in Chaguanas. She attended St. Augustine Girls’ High School, where she had the opportunity to pursue Art at both O’ and A’ levels. She received an Entrance Scholarship at York University, Canada and lived for many years in Toronto, where she completed a B.A. in Visual Art.
Her artistic inspiration comes from the beauty of Trinidad and Tobago, the beaches and rivers, mountains and trees. She also has a keen interest in Indian art and craft techniques. She likes painting with acrylics, but also uses oil pastels, pens and watercolours. In addition to traditional media, she also creates through digital painting and photo-manipulation.
Currently (2010), she teaches Visual Art at Saraswati Girls’ Hindu College in Chaguanas. She loves awakening the students’ enthusiasm for Art and especially enjoys their wonderment at creating something for the first time.
